computer geeks please help me buy a new comp?

im looking for the best way to get a great deal on a basic computer for home use. i want a desk top with atleast 120 gigs on the harddrive and i dual core processor but dont wana pay big bucks. ive looked into refurbished dells, wallmart specials, etc. i really dont wana pay more than 5 or 6 hundred dollars but dont want a junker. i just need it to manage my ipod and surf the net. please help

no matter what you do.. dont get a dell.. it will break.. and yo WILL be sorry. i would suggest a laptop.. you can still use it for home use.. and nowadays they are much more affordable… get one with a small harddrive.. and teell your salesman that you need to upgrade your RAM to atleast 2gigs, and then invest in an external hard drive.. you can get a 120gig-350gig for 100$ online… as far as brands go.. Toshiba is affordable and the most reliable you can buy for the money.. and they always come with an excellent care plan..included in the price… and you prolly wont use it if you do get a toshiba.. but i would do this.. just before your warranty does expire.. use it.. call up or say that the CD drive is gone bad.. and you need a new power adapter.. they usually replace these without asking questions because they are so basic, as they are designed to fail after a long time usually 2.5-3 years.. and most care plans are only for 2 years.
